Academic integrity is a guiding principle in education and a choice to act in a responsible way whereby others can have trust in us as individuals. It is the foundation for ethical decision-making and behaviors in the production of legitimate, authentic and honest scholarly work.

Chongqing No. 1 Secondary School believes that promoting academic integrity is the responsibility of the whole school community. In accordance with the IBO philosophy and the Learner Profile attitudes and attributes, the school acknowledges the importance of fostering academic integrity and principled behavior that demonstrates respect for the ideas and work of others.

By clearly communicating the expectations and protocols in relation to Academic Integrity, to all stake holders and community members, Chongqing No. 1 Secondary School further seeks to achieve both transparency and acknowledgement/endorsement by all involved.

Guidelines

Based on IB Academic Integrity in DP, academic integrity is defined as:

  • Respect for intellectual property;

  • Proper conduct in relation to all assessments.

Academic dishonesty has different forms and various terms. The following examples of malpractice do not constitute an exhaustive list.

  • Plagiarism is defined as the representation, intentionally or unwittingly, of the ideas, words or work of another person without proper, clear and explicit acknowledgment. The use of translated materials, unless indicated and acknowledged, is also considered plagiarism.

  • Collusion is defined as supporting academic misconduct by another student, for example allowing one's work to be copied or submitted for assessment by another.

  • Misconduct can include: taking unauthorized material into an examination (whether the student uses it or not), behavior that disrupts the examination or may distract other students including communicating with another student during the examination.
